Fabric Haul!!!

What do you call it when you climb up the dingy stairs in the middle of the night that lead the attic, just to discover fabrics packed away that were given to you a year ago??????????????

I am still calling it a haul. I know, a haul is when you GO out somewhere and gather a great deal of items. I feel as though that was met when I climbed up there at 11 pm last night(don't judge). Why was I up there? I was bored. There was no other reason. My sis came out to the garage and even questioned. The things you do just because.

With a move back to the Southwest in my near future, these will come in handy. I am planning on making many new pieces for my wardrobe.

 Any suggestions??????????

Pulled out from the great dark abyss...

Fabric the hubby got me for my bday and our anniversary. Yes we got married on my bday.

There are more but the photos didn't work with me. Happy sewing/reading/doing!

Lucinda Skirt Review

This post has been too long coming. Each time I have tried to use any Google products, I have been locked out. It is time now to get this up. Thank Goodness!

Overall, this skirt is a plus. Going from beginning to end took a while. Things you MUST know before attempting this skirt...

Have plenty of paper/restock
Measurements are in the metric system (I'm American but can and did convert)
Material makes a big difference with finished project

My friend Liz and I started in the morning and finished about 12 hours later. What is one to do when feeling overwhelmed by a project? Of course, break for lunchtime cocktails!

We started out writing down things as we went but that list disappeared along the way. So we ended with a video all about our day. +Parnuuna Kristiane Thornwood Thank you again.

Orders! Orders! Orders!

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read the blog, look at my designs or even just talk to me about Dee & Yve. This has all led to me having the busiest month yet as a small business owner. I have sat back in awe as phone calls and emails come in asking for custom designs. I appreciate all that everyone is doing.

Give Away Time

The Dee & Yve website is finally here!!!!!!!!!

I will still be using the blog but more for tutorials and projects for myself. I also have it linked on the website. Take the time to head over and check it out. There is a link to my online store as well. I am thinking, the best way to celebrate the launch is another giveaway!!! This time maybe some Dee & Yve Cash. Check back in the next couple of days to see what it will be.

DIY: Dress, earrings, pencil skirt

How did I make it past Mother's Day without blogging? That was a week full of creativity! I am excited for the projects that came out of it. Instead of telling what was made how about I show you...

Mother's Day dress for myself. There were more details added after this photo
No outfit is complete without the perfect accessories. These were made by my niece, who has made an appearance on this blog a time or two.

This week a random bit of inspiration hit. I wanted a cute tank and a pencil skirt combo. The extra ruffle on the front of the tank is just enough girly pop for me. The print really gets the eyes going.
I love the hanging thread on the white pencil skirt. Hello thread, you will be cut soon. I am still working on the length.

Until next time...

Road trip extended...

The beauty of the southwest is amazing. There are many places on this earth that allows you the opportunity to sit back in awe of God's work. How I came on this journey without a guitar or fabric amazes me. I am heading to the store today to pick up a notebook. I am needing to write and sketch.

We have seen many sights. Take a look at the photos...

We hiked down and around
Why is he on the dirty pony? Everyone else had a clean horse.
Amazing
P.S. The cows wanted me to eat more chik'in

Road Trip

Today is the start to the rest of April away from the hubby. I am heading back to the SW. I have missed you. I am all over the place with my final checklist.

I am bringing my discs to show Dee & Yve every chance I get. Who knows there may be plenty of new designs that come from this.

As for now with 3 hours left, a nap is needed along with a decision as to whether or not I think the hubby will put all of the clothes I washed away. Yes, mad dash cleaning fit I know.

Look for design inspiration and trip update posts. Love you lots

Sheet to Capri Pants

The weather is changing and in a winter fit, Goodwill received a hefty amount of clothing. So, with a trip on Monday back to the Southwest, I began to look for things around the house to reuse. This tutorial was birthed after viewing one of Vanessa's of www.thecraftygemini.com. She made her son a pair of pants using a t'shirt and an existing pair of pants.

Materials Needed:
Pants
Sheet(s), depending on size and details
scissors
Straight Pins
Ruler/Measuring Tape
Sewing Machine

Step 1: How to fold your sheet. Fold the sheet in half the long way. Then fold again the long way. You will have 4 layers of fabric.

Step 2: Take a pair of pants that have minimal stretch to them but still fit comfortably. Fold them in half side seam to side seam. Line up the side seam with the folded edge. Cut around giving yourself about an inch out from the pants in all directions. Do not cut the fold.

Step 3: Pin and sew along the curve edge only using a 1/4 seam allowance

Step 4: Open pants allowing the seams you just made to match up in the center. Those have become your front and back seam. Now Pin along your inseam matching up what you have just completed.
Yes, I am pushing the lining up for the center seams.
Stitch using 1/2 seam allowance. I went back in with a 1/4 stitch as well. This is also where I added a little marker to show me which side was the bottom.

Step 5: It should be looking like a pair of short pants now! Now we try them on. Yes it should be a little snug over the bottom but we having not finished the waistband yet.  Mark with a pin or chalk where you would like your waist to sit as well as the hem to end.
Sorry no pic for this step

Step 6: Take them off and measure the distance from your marking to the top. Double that and mark on the waist. Then cut that off. I know it seems confusing but just read along with me and it will get better.  Fold the newly cut piece in half wrong sides facing each other and press. Then pin the pressed piece around the waistband raw edges to raw edges. You should have 3 layers of raw edging. Stitch as close as you can to the raw edge. Make sure your center seams are lined up.
Step 7: Cut 2 slits/holes equal distance from the center seam in the from on the left and right side. Take a Measurement of your hip where the Capri Pants will sit. Add that by half of your measurement. That is the length of your tie. The width of it is determined by how thick your band is at the top of your garment. Stitch together a tube and flip it inside out using your favorite method. I like to press my ends in and top stitch :). Feed the tie through the holes and make a cute bow of your choosing.

Step 8: Time for the hem. Going back to the marking of where you wanted the hem to be. Fold the bottom up to the line or mark you have and fold again. Press the seam. Then top stitch.

Step 9: And there you have a finished pair of Capri pants. My niece looks very excited to model.

Get creative and add extra flair to them. Pull out the double needle and stitch around the hem or even add cargo pockets on the side. I am adding pockets to the the front and little button tabs on the bottom sides.

Back with collaborations

Sorry, I have been away. We have been all over the place with the 4 in 1 week birthdays. We attempted to make all of them but by the 2nd our bodies were done. I was able to make a cake for a pretty awesome 13 year old. I was told to incorporate zebra, dark blue and red velvet. That is nothing, right? Well, here is the final product.

For not having any lights on and it being started in the 5 am hour, this cake is nice. the top was Red Velvet, the Zebra is visible plus, the blue ribbon is a soft touch.

I spoke with a friend who works at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana. They are holding a Faith Walk and Dee & Yve will be present and doing a prom give-away.

Now, I know there are many people who see beauty in the winter weather. Who doesn't want a winter wonderland...ME! I think it is pretty to look at but even I gave in to the beauty. I called my girl Kathy who runs KIH Designs Photography and headed over with the  hubby. It turns out she thought it was glamorous too.

We ended this weekend with trips all over Community North. That hospital has a nice staff.

P.S. Whoever did the showers in the Maternity Wing can come over any day.

March Madness

March= Birthdays, Give-Aways, Moving and Weddings

So I am getting all my March birthdays out of the way. I have this number I am working on for one. Why are there 4 in one week?

This fabric is becoming a favorite of mine. Each time I make a piece, I fall for the fabric. Excuse the model, my dress form just doesn't have the curves to fill it out. I will post a pic of her wearing it later.

Don't forget to head over to the Give-away tab and leave a message to get registered in for a free dress of your choice. You can also email your name if you do not have an account that will post.

Dee & Yve Giveaway

This day was full of fun. I sat with my photographer Kathy, http://www.kihdesigns.smugmug.com, and went over the shots. You can see just by these few that I have some decisions to make. I just might wait until my husband gets back from Atlanta. Be on the look out for the giveaway of dresses. On April 2nd, I will select 3 names from my new followers on my blog and YouTube Channel (A Holi). You will be able to say which design along with color. This is perfect for prom or the wedding season we are in. Tell all of your friends to stop over this way.

I leave you with beauty from the lovely ladies.

Is it real?????

Silly of me to book a weekend trip the same weekend of the photo shoot and drive rather than fly! God made it happen. The roads and sky were clear. You would never have guessed an ice storm rolled through 48 hrs prior to this pic. This shot was the last of the day and each model was told to grab their favorite out of the collection. Is it odd that none of them choose something they wore? I will leave you with a few more shots. The website is going to be hot!!!

Teresa is a fresh faced newbie to modeling who glowed.

Liz who had so many shots like this. Who says blondes have more fun?

Thank yous go out to everyone who has been along for the ride and continues to be there. The next chapter will be here before we know it.
